Who Will Make The Most Money On The Lakers Next Year: Russell Westbrook Or LeBron James?

There was a lot of talk last week about the NBA Draft. The Detroit Pistons took Cade Cunningham number one overall with hopes he can revitalize their franchise. The Orlando Magic snagged Jalen Suggs, who fell to fifth, which is actually a good thing for him. Josh Primo was chosen by the San Antonio Spurs with the number twelve choice, which some pundits deemed to be a reach. Though it’s difficult to contest the Spurs’ track record, we won’t pass judgment.

But a significant trade eclipsed everything else. As Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski first reported just before the draft started, the Washington Wizards sent Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers.

In return, the Wizards will receive Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell, and the 22nd pick of the 2021 draft. Isaiah Jackson of Kentucky was selected with that choice, despite the fact that he is currently being traded to Indiana.

The Lakers will also receive second-round choices in 2024 and 2028 from the Wizards. The trade can’t be officially announced until August 6, when next year’s salary cap becomes official and teams can start making moves.

Westbrook will be paid the most in 2021–22, at $44.2 million. LeBron James comes in second place, earning $41.2 million annually. This upcoming season, Davis will earn $35.3 million in salary.

Westbrook played with the Wizards for just one season, but it was a successful one. With 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 11.7 assists on average, he had a triple-double. He still has two seasons left on this contract, and in the summer of 2023, he will become a free agent.

Westbrook has relocated from Oklahoma City to Houston to Washington to Los Angeles since the year 2019. But all that hopping around will be worth it if he can get his first title.
