One of the most prominent witnesses in Thursday's high-profile hearing has ties to both the Trump administration and the Northeast Ohio region.

The final televised hearing for the panel will feature Sarah Matthews testifying under oath.

In June 2019, Matthews joined Trump's reelection campaign as a communications staffer. Matthews says he has been a Republican his entire life.

The United States government was prepared to formally certify Trump's loss to Biden in the 2020 presidential election due to their "close relationship."

When Trump called on his supporters to demonstrate at the Capitol that his election had been rigged, hundreds of thousands of them showed up.

Trump's three-hour, seven-minute speech was stormed by a crowd during Thursday's hearing. The Capitol building was evacuated by Vice President Pence and members of Congress.

President Trump said Vice President Pence lacked the "courage" to overturn the election results, which was not permitted by the Constitution.

Having the vice president tweet at that moment was not what Matthews needed. According to him, "He literally gave them permission to do what they were doing.
