The Minnesota Twins are reportedly acquiring Baltimore Orioles closer Jorge López in exchange for a package of prospects, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The 1.68 ERA that Lopez has amassed in 44 appearances this season comes courtesy of 19 saves in 23 chances...

Previously, López was a starter for the Orioles, but his record was 3-14 with a 6.07 ERA in 2021, when he was moved to the bullpen.

He told MLB.com at the time, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde, that it was time to try something new...

"We're not ruling him out for the rotation just yet, but I'd rather see how he performs in relief.... He may be relieved of some of the pressure."

Baltimore will receive pitching prospects Cade Povich and Yennier Canó, among others, as a result of the trade.

Emilio Pagán has played a significant role in helping the Minnesota Twins pull ahead of the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central. The 31-year-old veteran goaltender has made nine saves in 15 opportunities so far this season.

When the season began, the Orioles had a 14-24 record. The team is 2.5 games behind the Wild Card race in the AL East. There was a trade of Trey Mancini from the Baltimore Orioles to the Houston Astros on Monday.
