Some Banana Boat sunscreens have been found to contain high levels of benzene, a cancer-causing chemical.

Edgewell Personal Care Company is recalling three batches of Banana Boat Hair & Scalp Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 nationwide.

Benzene was found in trace amounts in some samples of the product after an internal investigation.

No Banana Boat product contains benzene, but the propellant used to dispense the product from the can contains high concentrations of the chemical in undesired amounts.

It should be noted that no other batches of Hair & Scalp (either before or after these batch codes) or Banana Boat products are affected by this recall.

The recalled products' lot codes are 20016AF, 20084BF, and 21139AF, which can be found on the cans' bottoms.

The aerosol sunscreen sprays were distributed across the country by a number of different retailers. The recalled goods must now be removed from store shelves after retailers were notified.

The company advised consumers to stop using and properly dispose of this product as soon as possible.

Toxins can be ingested, inhaled, or absorbed into the body's tissues via the skin. Bone marrow and leukemia cancers can be caused by it. In addition, blood disorders can occur.

The Drug and Cosmetic Administration is aware of any such recalls.
