Apart from its role in the Theranos soap opera, the property is quite stunning. It has a total area of 6,800 square feet, five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a guest house with one bedroom. The entire estate, which is roughly an acre, is distinguished by opulent features like expertly tended gardens, crystal chandeliers, and more, all decorated in a French provincial style.

The mansion received some attention during Holmes’ fraud trial. She and Balwani paid $9 million for the house in 2013 through an LLC, it was revealed in court. Then, in 2018, Balwani paid approximately $8 million to acquire Holmes’s share of the property, which attracted the attention of investigators as a potential “red flag” that might have been Holmes’s attempt to reduce her wealth before being held accountable for Theranos-related financial losses.

As a result of his involvement in the company’s misdeeds, Balwani will soon be put on trial for fraud and deception. Holmes has already been found guilty of four counts of fraud and is currently awaiting sentencing – she could be facing up to 80 years in prison.
