According to San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera, a 32-year-old male drowned in Lake Corpus Christi on July 23. Rivera stated in a press release that the man was wade fishing approximately 9:30 a.m. when he went missing. Elmendorf is located southeast of San Antonio.

KIIITV was informed by Larry Wayne Ebner’s relatives that he was their loved one. According to the station, Ebner and his son were enjoying a day at the lake when Ebner began to feel ill. Even though his son, who was only 13, tried to help, he too had trouble.

Police from Lake Corpus Christi State Park, San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office officers, and game wardens from Texas Parks and Wildlife were dispatched to look for Ebner after he failed to reappear, as stated by Rivera. At about 4:30 in the afternoon, divers located the body.

Justice of the Peace Elvia Hernandez of Precinct 8 has requested an autopsy.

Rivera said Saturday night on Facebook, “Our heartfelt sympathies to the family.”

According to KIIITV, Ebner’s relatives are trying to get the word out about the significance of always carrying a life jacket and practicing water safety. The family is planning a benefit plate sale or GoFundMe page to raise money for the funeral expenses. According to the station, the family has promised to spread the news through social media and the local community as soon as the data becomes available.
