On Wednesday night in Westminster, the former U.S. Auto Club champion was discovered unconscious with a chest wound. Despite their best efforts, police and paramedics were unable to resuscitate him.

The culprit, 27-year-old itinerant Trent William Millsap, was named by the police. “Millsap also has a parole warrant out for him. He should be regarded as dangerous and armed, according to the police.

On Friday, a SWAT squad searched an apartment in Anaheim for him, and during what the authorities called a “officer-involved shooting” that is currently being looked into, a K-9 was shot.

According to police accounts, the shooting victim at the gas station may have also been an unnamed homeless, although Deadline later reported that the victim was East, 37. He has been winning races since 2001 as the son of a race car builder.
