Even at an institution like Michigan, every major commitment matters. But when you can snag a quality recruit from a competitor, those commitments become even more valuable. Jim Harbaugh and his team were successful in doing this with 4-star lineman Enow Etta from Colleyville, Texas.

Etta, a prospect for the class of 2023, is ranked as the 8th defensive lineman and a Top 60 recruit overall by 247Sports. Although he had a strong preference for the Spartans, the Wolverines were able to acquire his commitment despite his almost 6-foot-5 height and 260-pound weight as a rising senior in high school.

Etta chose the Wolverines out of 30 offers he received, choosing them over schools like Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Miami, TCU, Tennessee, USC, and Wisconsin, among others.

Etta appreciated the opportunity to emulate former Michigan pass rushers Aiden Hutchinson and David Ojabo. The Detroit Lions selected Hutchinson with the second overall pick in the most recent NFL Draft. The Baltimore Ravens selected Ojabo in the second round.

I certainly want to be a part of that, and after seeing Ojabo, Hutchinson, and [Rashan] Gary, I feel like I can do it too “He told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong about it. “Simply wanting it and working hard will do.

The Wolverines now have 11 commitments for the 2023 class, with Etta ranking as the highest-rated player.
