The high school outfielder was one of the best prospects available when he entered the draft.

The top baseball prospect in this year’s draft has already been selected.

With the second overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, the Diamondbacks have selected Druw Jones, the league’s top prospect, according to MLB.com.

In high school, Jones attended Wesleyan High School in Georgia, where he was a center fielder like his father, Andruw Jones, a Braves legend. After being drafted as high as he was, he is unlikely to attend Vanderbilt next year.

As expected, Jones hit in over half of his at-bats and stole more than 30 bases in high school.

There have recently been several sons of former MLB players making their way into the league, including Jones. Jack Leiter, Dusty Baker’s son Darren, and Matt Holliday’s son Jackson are among the top prospects in this year’s draft, which began on Saturday with the Future’s Game.

A former Atlanta Braves outfielder, Andruw Jones played in the Major Leagues for seventeen years. As the Braves’ center fielder from 1998 to 2007, he won ten consecutive Gold Glove Awards with a.823 OPS and 434 home runs.
