Days After Pledging To Sell Everything He Owns, Elon Musk Lists Two L.A. Mansions

Elon Musk tweeted on May 1st, a Friday “Nearly all of my material possessions are being sold. won’t own a home.” Well, it appears that he is fulfilling that promise—or at least beginning to. He just listed two Los Angeles area mansions on Zillow for $30 million and $9.5 million.

Elon Musk tweeted on May 1st, a Friday “Nearly all of my material possessions are being sold. won’t own a home.” Well, it appears that he is fulfilling that promise—or at least beginning to. He just put two properties in the Los Angeles area on Zillow for $30 million and $9.5 million. The postings, which state they are “for sale by owner,” went live on Sunday, May 3. Sadly, Musk sent out a number of other strange tweets on Friday. He also made a comment that he thought Tesla’s stock price was too high. A $14 billion loss was made to the company’s value as a result of that tweet. Nobody (maybe with the exception of Musk) is aware of his motivation for doing this. After tweeting about selling his material goods, he posted “Only one condition: I am the owner of Gene Wilder’s former home. It cannot be destroyed or have any of its soul lost.” Then Grimezsz, “My gf,” gets upset with me. She’s due to give birth to the couple’s child at any moment, so I’m willing to bet she is. Musk then began tweeting the Star-Spangled Banner’s lyrics.

Both of the two houses Musk has listed are in Bel Air. Five bedrooms are included in one ranch-style home. Stunning estate with six bedrooms makes up the other. The ranch home is the house that is reportedly the former residence of Gene Wilder, the actor best known for playing Willie Wonka in Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. It is a 2,756 square foot house with a guest house and a pool.

The listing says: “Updated but carefully preserved unique, quirky, and charming ranch style former home of Gene Wilder/Willie Wonka. Beautiful view property on this about one-acre peninsula with vistas of distant cities overlooking the stream, trees, and white sand traps of the 13th hole and 14th fairway on the Bel-Air Country Club Golf Course. The property features a 5, 4.5-bath ranch home with an oval pool and a separate guest cottage that is approximately 2,800 square feet.” All of this is available to you for $9.5 million, which is a reasonable price for the upscale Bel Air neighborhood.

The other house is more lavish. The 16,251 square foot estate includes six bedrooms and eleven bathrooms and looks out over the Bel Air Country Club. Ocean and city views may be seen from the house. Since it was initially constructed in 1990, many renovations have been made. The listing says: “…Large master suite with separate dual baths and closets, family wing, 2-story library, theater, 2-room guest suite, lighted championship tennis court, wine cellar, gym, pool, vast grassy yard, and fruit orchard. 5-car garage with a motor court.” The price is $30 million.

At least four additional Bel Air residences are owned by Musk, including a brand-new $24.25 million mansion built in 2016. His primary property is a 20,248 square foot estate that he purchased in 2012 for $17 million. Musk invested a total of $72 million on Bel Air real estate.
